RESILIENCY IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY
At some point in our lives, we have faced challenges that test and define us. Some manage to keep their head above water, while others — lose strength and drown. The ability to overcome these challenges depends from person to person.
And this is also true for the business world.
Two years ago, the world was surprised as the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the globe, affecting hundreds of thousands of businesses from different countries. From increasing production costs to a decline in sales to retrenchment of employees which then led to the closure of a lot of stores, there’s no denying that the pandemic has negatively impacted several establishments, big and small. But not all of them gave up and let their hardships in putting up the business of their dreams go to waste. Some of them stepped up and looked for a better way to turn this thing around. To adapt to the ever-changing and more challenging industry.
Taking advantage of the existence of social media, several companies crafted a campaign that will help in encouraging people to help in reducing the COVID-19 transmission, and help in flattening the curve; others helped in putting an end to the spread of fake news, especially if it is about the virus. Some recalibrated their strategies such as lowering their prices, making their products available for delivery, and doing promotions that would benefit their customers. These efforts have proved that when it comes down to risking and failing, the second option should never be a choice. As the pandemic slowly shows improvement in some countries, and most businesses got back to their normal operations, it is still necessary to learn from the people who never gave up despite facing the risks and uncertainties brought by the adversities, and use this to build resilience within ourselves. Let us always remind ourselves that there are no dead ends in life and that there is always a way to get through anything we might face.
