STEPPING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE: A ONE-WAY TICKET TO THE GROWTH ZONE
There’s a saying that goes, “Great things never came from the comfort zone.”
This just means that to be able to gain, you’ll have to lose something.
And that is to give up the warmth and safety inside your comfort zone.
From the prominent explorers and navigators who braved the stormy seas to look for lands to the present-day entrepreneurs who courageously started their business ventures despite the uncertainties they may encounter, it is proven that those who take risks are also those who get rewarded. This is because these people are the ones who are willing to overcome their fear of getting uncomfortable.
While it is true that it is frightening to take a step out of your comfort zone, it can also never be denied that you’ve been missing hundreds or even thousands of opportunities outside that zone. Opportunities that are waiting for you to take, for you to get, and for you to seize. And this is when you have to ask yourself.
“Is it really hard to step out or am I just afraid to see what lies ahead?”
Well, the truth is most people are just afraid to try new things — to EMBRACE CHANGES. They are anxious about doing unfamiliar things, frightened of looking for new ways to get things done, and worried to adapt to the ever-changing world.
But there’s nothing wrong with that because being afraid is part of that first big step away from your comfort zone. It is the time when worries, anxiety, and uncertainties happen, this is called The Fear Zone. This is when you are introduced to the things you’ve never seen, nor ever tried before. In this zone you’ll feel the most vulnerable, you will easily get affected by what others would say, and this results in lacking confidence.
But the process doesn’t stop there, as all hardships are a learning experience. And this is when you take the next step, which is called The Learning Zone. The Learning Zone is when you figure out how to solve problems that you encountered as you took the first step out of your comfort zone, this is the time where you acquire a new set of skills and gain new knowledge which you can use to adapt to the changing world around you until you feel that you are craving for more and looking for new opportunities to gain new learning experiences.
After going through different phases, and taking a lot of steps, you finally reached your destination — The Growth Zone. This is the stage where you found your purpose, where you realize things and you set new goals for you to achieve. The Growth Zone also encourages you to strive for more, as if you’ve expanded your comfort zone and you wanted to aspire for more and be more.
Being in your comfort zone isn’t a bad thing, but staying in there for too long is. The world is too big to entrap yourself in a place where you do the same things every day as if you were in a loop. Enjoy life and explore new things to grow. Because as the famous Canadian motivation speaker Brian Tracy has said, “You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.”
So… are you ready to take that step?
